Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona, a move that looked like it might relaunch his career at the very top. By all accounts, he impressed in Spain, adapting to a new league and a new style while showing flashes of the explosiveness that once made him United’s poster boy.
It still wasn’t enough to earn a permanent stay.
Barcelona chose to go in a different direction, reinforcing their attack with Anthony Gordon and exploring a deal for Karim Adeyemi. Those decisions squeezed Rashford out of their long-term plans and sent a clear message: he would be heading back to Manchester with no guaranteed role waiting for him.
United open the door, Arsenal look on
Manchester United could yet reintegrate Rashford into the squad, but the club is also prepared to listen to offers during this window. That stance has naturally drawn attention from across Europe, with Arsenal among the clubs monitoring the situation as they weigh up options to deepen their attacking resources.
Rashford has not been a central figure for England at the World Cup, his minutes more limited than many expected. Even so, he remains one of the standout talents in the squad – a player with big-tournament experience, proven output at club level and the versatility to operate across the front line.
Those are precisely the qualities Mikel Arteta’s side may soon need.
Gaps emerging in Arsenal’s attack
Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard are both expected to leave Arsenal this summer. If those exits materialise, they will rip out a chunk of Arteta’s wide options and leave a clear need for top-level reinforcements in the forward areas.
That context is what makes the Rashford link more than just idle gossip. A left-sided forward who can also play centrally, comfortable in transition and experienced in high-pressure matches, he ticks a lot of boxes for a side looking to stay in the title conversation and go deeper in Europe.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand did not hesitate when co-host Stephen Howson floated Arsenal as a possible destination.
“I’m taking Rashford,” he said. “For 40 million, I am sweeping Marcus Rashford off his feet.”
No caveats. No doubt about the value.
Ferdinand’s stance underlines how striking that reported fee looks in the current market. A 26-year-old England international, with Champions League and World Cup experience, potentially available for around £40 million, is not the kind of opportunity that usually lands in a rival’s lap.
A rare chance – if Arsenal are bold enough
Whether Arsenal decide to act is another matter. Arteta and the club’s recruitment team are still assessing their options as the window unfolds, and other targets remain in play. But as long as Rashford’s future at United hangs in the balance, the link will not go away.
If United are truly prepared to cash in, and if the fee stays in the region Ferdinand mentioned, the question is no longer whether Rashford is good enough for Arsenal.
It is whether Arsenal are willing to take him from Old Trafford and hand him the platform to prove it.
