Roma Near Agreement for Rodrigo Mora Following Talks with Porto

Roma and FC Porto have finally broken the deadlock over Rodrigo Mora, edging towards a complex €50m agreement that has been weeks in the making.

The two clubs, locked in negotiations that had stalled repeatedly, have now reworked the structure of the deal. Roma are poised to pay €25m up front to purchase 50 per cent of Mora’s contract, with an option to buy the remaining half for another €25m at the end of the season.

If Roma decide not to trigger that option, Porto will keep 50 per cent of the fee from any future sale of the player.

It marks a sharp change of course from the formula that almost went through last week. At that stage, Roma and Porto were closing on a loan worth €10m with an option to buy for a further €40m, which would have turned into an obligation if certain conditions were met.

That’s where everything jammed. Porto pushed for conditions that would make the obligation to buy almost automatic. Roma, wary of that level of commitment, wanted to tie it to on-pitch success — Champions League qualification, or even winning the Scudetto.

The disagreement dragged talks into a stalemate, despite Roma’s clear interest and Porto’s willingness to sell.

Now, multiple outlets in Italy and Portugal report that the fresh 50–50 ownership structure has unlocked the move. The new model spreads the risk, gives Roma immediate access to the player, and still protects Porto’s long-term financial stake if Mora’s value explodes.

Timing matters. Mora is not in coach Francesco Farioli’s plans at Porto, and both clubs know it. With pre-season rhythms accelerating and squads taking shape, the deal has gathered pace, with all sides pushing to wrap it up in the coming days.

After weeks of haggling over clauses and conditions, Roma finally look ready to get their man — and Mora finally looks set for a new stage to prove exactly why this tug-of-war cost €50m.
