Ruben Amorim Says AC Milan Didn’t Deserve Win After Late Juventus Equalizer in Turin
Ruben Amorim, head coach of AC Milan, openly admitted his team did not merit all three points following a 1-1 Serie A draw at Juventus' Allianz Stadium. The result halted Milan’s perfect start to the season after a last-minute header from Federico Gatti cancelled out Alphadjo Cisse’s early goal.
Late Header Ends Milan’s Winning Streak
The visitors had taken the lead against the run of play when substitute Cisse cleverly finished through Pierre Kalulu’s legs. Yet deep into stoppage time, Gatti powered home a header from a cross by Teun Koopmeiners to secure a share of the points and stop both teams from keeping their 100 percent winning records.
Amorim’s Honest Post-Match Reflection
Speaking to DAZN Italia, the Portuguese coach was blunt about Milan’s struggles under constant pressure. He said:
"We didn’t deserve to win, if we are honest, or more like Juventus didn’t deserve to lose. We tried to play our game, but we weren’t good with the ball. In the first half, we had moments controlling the game, but then we started losing possession too often. We didn’t play well. We’ve been working together for two months; we need time and must improve. It was a tough match for us."
Cisse Ends Milan’s Goal Drought vs Juventus
Cisse’s strike ended Milan’s Serie A goal drought against Juventus that dated back to May 2023. It also made him the youngest player to score in his first two away games in the three-points-per-win era.
Despite this milestone, Amorim pointed out key weaknesses in ball control. He remarked:
"We have individual quality, but simple things are what matter most—the way we receive and pass the ball, the fundamentals. Today we were not good at those. When we don’t have possession, we struggle. Juventus put many strikers forward, and while we defended well, we suffered more during transitions after losing the ball. We won’t change our style because some games will go well, others won’t, but what matters is fighting to win. We could have won today, but Juventus didn’t deserve to lose either."
Upcoming Challenges for Milan and Juventus
AC Milan must quickly improve ball retention and transition play before facing Lazio on September 12. Meanwhile, Juventus travel to Sassuolo on September 13 aiming to continue their strong start to the season. Amorim’s priority remains fixing basic errors to keep Milan in the Scudetto hunt.
