Ruben Amorim Targets Manchester United Defender Leny Yoro in AC Milan’s Late Transfer Pursuit
AC Milan head coach Ruben Amorim is reportedly interested in bringing Manchester United defender Leny Yoro to San Siro before the summer transfer window closes. The Portuguese coach, who recently took charge of the Italian giants, appears eager to reunite with the young French defender as part of his squad rebuilding efforts.
Amorim's Defensive Reinforcement Plans
According to Tuttosport, Amorim has been actively discussing potential signings with Rossoneri directors Hendrik Almstadt and Bobby Gardiner. Their Saturday meeting lasted five hours, focusing on finalizing targets ahead of the deadline. Yoro, 20, is high on their list despite his mixed fortunes at Old Trafford.
The defender joined United from Lille two years ago in a £52 million deal but has struggled with form and injuries. A severe ankle injury during his first season hampered his progress, and he has not cemented a regular starting place under Michael Carrick.
Uncertain Future at Manchester United
Yoro’s current status at Manchester United is unclear. He was an unused substitute in their opening day loss to Hull City and made only a late substitute appearance against Ipswich Town, replacing Diogo Dalot in the 73rd minute. Despite limited starts, he has appeared 67 times for the club, scoring once and assisting three goals.
A move to Serie A might offer him a fresh start under a manager who clearly values his abilities. Amorim’s interest suggests Yoro fits well within his tactical plans for AC Milan.
Yoro’s Champions League Ambitions
“All the players in the world want to play in this competition. I did the Conference League, Europa League, and now I’m going to play in the Champions League. So yeah, I think the step is very good. It’s a competition with the best players in the world,” Yoro shared on Manchester United’s official site.
“The other lads have spoken about when you train with the Champions League ball and hear the music of the Champions League, it’s just a different atmosphere from the league. We play against different clubs from all over the world, so [they have spoken to me] about the atmosphere and the magic of this competition.”
AC Milan’s Busy Transfer Window
AC Milan have been very active this summer, spending over £128 million to strengthen their squad. Their main priorities include signing an attacking midfielder, a left-back—linked to Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde—and a central defender.
Though Yoro hasn’t publicly expressed a desire to leave the Premier League, circumstances could change if Milan make a formal offer. The club aims to build a competitive team capable of success on various fronts, and Amorim sees Yoro as a key piece for that vision.
