Sheffield United Sign Jordan Ayew to Boost Attack

Sheffield United have turned to a seasoned Premier League campaigner, signing former Crystal Palace and Leicester City forward Jordan Ayew on a deal until the end of the season.

The 34-year-old Ghana international, capped 124 times by his country, arrives as a free agent after leaving Leicester at the end of last season, when the Foxes dropped into League One. His departure ended a brief, bruising spell at the club, but not his long-running story in English football.

Ayew first came to England in 2015, swapping Lorient for Aston Villa. Since then he has carved out an 11-year career across the Premier League and Championship, a familiar presence in attacks built on hard running, clever movement and a willingness to occupy any role across the front line.

Manager's Comments

Manager Chris Wilder made no attempt to play down the significance of the move.

"We're talking about someone here with bags of experience from right at the top level of the game," he told the club’s website. The reminder came quickly: "Only a few months ago he was captaining Ghana in the World Cup, so he's someone with real pedigree."

That pedigree is exactly what a struggling side craves. Ayew has operated wide, through the middle and off the flank during his career, a tactical flexibility Wilder believes can reshape his attacking options.

"He did well at this level last season in difficult circumstances and has played all across the front positions during his career which gives us plenty of options," Wilder said.
