Tottenham Finalizes Omar Marmoush Deal as City Transfers Heat Up
Tottenham’s attacking rebuild has kicked up another gear, and it’s Manchester City feeling the drain.
Just days after tying up a blockbuster move for Savinho, Spurs have now reached a verbal agreement to bring Omar Marmoush to north London, according to Fabrizio Romano. The message is clear after Saturday’s blunt 3-0 defeat to Brentford: Ange Postecoglou wants more goals, and he wants them now.
Marmoush next in the door
Talks over Marmoush had been bubbling in the background while Savinho dominated the headlines. Those discussions have now accelerated into a deal in principle.
Spurs and City have agreed an initial loan for the Egyptian forward, with a buy clause set at £50million. That clause will become mandatory if certain conditions are met over the course of the season. The triggers have not been disclosed, but the structure gives Tottenham room to manoeuvre around financial regulations after an already heavy window of spending.
Crucially, Marmoush has already given the move the green light. He is expected in north London on Monday to undergo a medical before putting pen to paper and officially becoming a Tottenham player.
For a club that managed just four shots on target in a limp loss to Brentford, the timing is no coincidence. The need for extra punch in the final third has been brutally exposed, and Spurs have responded by doubling down on a strategy built around young, high-upside forwards.
Savinho deal sets the tone
The Marmoush move follows hot on the heels of the agreement for Savinho, another City-owned talent. That deal was confirmed days ago, with David Ornstein among those detailing the numbers.
Tottenham will pay £75million up front for the Brazilian winger, with a further £10million available in bonuses. Of that add-on package, £5million is described as highly achievable, underlining how confident Spurs are that Savinho will hit the ground running.
Early expectations around the twin pursuit of Savinho and Marmoush suggested a combined outlay closer to £150million. Fold that into the £230million already splashed this summer and the total could easily have rocketed to £380million.
The reality is slightly softer on the balance sheet. With Marmoush’s move structured as a loan that converts into a £50million obligation only if conditions are met, the combined commitment for the two City players comes in at around £135million rather than the initially feared figure.
Big spend, careful structure
Even with that saving, Tottenham’s summer remains enormous. The club’s total outlay will hit roughly £365million if all elements of the Savinho and Marmoush deals are triggered.
Yet the way they have built the Marmoush agreement matters. By deferring the bulk of the cost and avoiding an immediate transfer fee, Spurs give themselves breathing space with financial regulations after a window already defined by aggressive investment.
There is another layer to the value. Tottenham are on course to pay less for Marmoush than City did when they signed him from the Bundesliga a year and a half ago. For a player entering his prime and already schooled in City’s demanding environment, that represents shrewd business as much as it does ambition.
Spurs now move towards the new season with two fresh attackers drawn from one of Europe’s most talent-rich squads. The question is no longer whether they are willing to spend. It’s how quickly Savinho and Marmoush can turn all that money into the goals and edge this team so clearly lacks.
