Tottenham Signs Sávio for £75m as De Zerbi Era Begins
Tottenham have completed the signing of Savinho from Manchester City, with the Brazilian winger confirming he will be known as Sávio at his new club, in a statement move that underlines the scale of Spurs’ rebuild.
The 22-year-old arrives for £75m, with the agreement containing a further £10m in potential add-ons. It is a fee that places him instantly among the club’s most expensive signings – and piles expectation on a player billed as a livewire presence out wide.
“It’s taken a while but I’m very happy to be here,” Sávio said after the deal was announced. “It’s a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world.”
That manager, Roberto De Zerbi, has wasted little time putting his stamp on the squad. Sávio is exactly the type of winger his football demands: aggressive, inventive, and fearless in one‑v‑one situations.
“Sávio is a player who brings energy, imagination and quality in wide positions,” De Zerbi said. “He has the courage to attack defenders and the ability to change a game with his creativity.”
The message is clear. Spurs want to play on the front foot, and they are paying heavily to do it.
Sávio becomes the latest major addition in a summer of heavy investment. Another Manchester City forward, Omar Marmoush, is also expected to join, a move that would further tilt the squad towards De Zerbi’s high-tempo, attacking blueprint.
If that deal is completed, Marmoush will be the club’s fifth signing of £50m or more in this window alone, following Sávio, Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke. The numbers are striking; so is the intent.
