Carlos Alcaraz Nears Roger Federer’s Record with Vienna Open Victory
Carlos Alcaraz has already achieved what many players only dream of, and his journey is far from over. The young Spaniard has swiftly collected seven Grand Slam titles along with eight Masters 1000 victories.
The legendary careers of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic set standards few believed could be surpassed. Yet, the rapid pace at which this 23-year-old is accumulating wins makes their records feel vulnerable. Aside from Jannik Sinner, there seems little competition capable of matching Alcaraz when he is fully fit.
Matching Nadal and Closing in on Federer
With his recent triumph in Vienna, Alcaraz tied a record held by Nadal by winning eight different ATP 500 events. This moves him ahead of Juan Martin del Potro, Andy Murray, and Boris Becker, who each have seven, and leaves Federer and Djokovic trailing with six.
While another milestone remains out of reach for now, it appears only a matter of time before Alcaraz surpasses it in 2027. Just two players have won 25 or more consecutive matches at ATP 500 tournaments: Federer and Alcaraz. Federer’s streak ended at 28 wins, and Alcaraz is currently at 26 consecutive victories.
This streak began in April 2025 and includes an undefeated run in 2026 ATP 500 events, except for the Barcelona Open, where he withdrew due to injury.
Vienna Victory and Upcoming Challenges
Alcaraz defeated Alex de Minaur to claim his first title at the Vienna Open, adding another trophy to his collection. He now heads to Paris aiming to keep up his momentum, possibly securing another first-time title. This would position him strongly ahead of the ATP Finals.
