The much-anticipated fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury now has a confirmed date and location. After months of talks, British fans can expect this historic clash to take place in their home country.
Negotiations Over Location and Date
Since both fighters signed contracts in April, discussions about where and when the bout would happen have been ongoing. Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter, and Dana White from TKO Sports went back and forth, with White pushing for the fight to be held in the United States. Hearn stood firm, rejecting an offer to move the fight to Madison Square Garden. Their persistence seems to have paid off, as the fight is expected to occur on British soil.
Cardiff Set to Host the Showdown
American sports journalist Dan Rafael shared updates indicating that if everything goes smoothly, the fight will happen on December 11th at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. Other possible dates were November 28th and December 4th, but December 11th appears most likely. Rafael also mentioned that final permits and paperwork will take some time to finalize, with confirmation expected soon. Hearn confirmed that Dana White is not involved in promoting the fight.
Background on Fury and Joshua’s Recent Fights
This matchup has been a dream for British boxing for years, with doubts it might never come to pass since both fighters are getting older. Both men returned to the ring earlier this year to prepare. Tyson Fury won by stoppage against Mariusz Wach in July after beating Arslanbek Makhmudov in April at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. After his unanimous decision victory, Fury called out Joshua directly from the ring.
Anthony Joshua made his return following a tragic car accident in December that claimed the lives of two friends. In July, Joshua knocked out Kristian Prenga in the second round despite being knocked down twice early on.

The fight buildup has been marked more by the clash between promoters Eddie Hearn and Dana White than between the fighters themselves. White accused Hearn of blocking the fight and halting negotiations, but Hearn dismissed those claims, pointing out contracts are already signed.
Hearn said on iFL TV: "Dana White has tried to get involved in a fight that he has nothing to do with and to get Sela to break their contract, scrap a British fight, and bring it to America. He thinks that he’s not causing a problem in this fight? All we have ever done is said, ‘We’ve signed our contract. Just honour the contract that we’ve signed."
He added: "We’ve never done anything else and what he can’t get his head around is that Anthony Joshua won’t take a little bit more money to do the fight in America, because he cares. He cares where the fight is. He cares about British boxing, and he cares about the contract that he signed."
Hearn also claimed: "And Dana White thinks you can throw a little bit of money at someone and they’ll dance to your f*cking tune. Well, guess what? Not on A.J.’s watch. That is why, unfortunately for these people, the fight will not be taking place in America, because Anthony Joshua is not a sellout."
Venue History and Broadcast Plans
The Principality Stadium, which holds 74,000 spectators, previously hosted Joshua’s victory over Joseph Parker in March 2018 and Joe Calzaghe’s win against Mikkel Kessler in November 2007. The fight is expected to start late in the UK to accommodate American viewers, setting the stage for one of the biggest all-British boxing events ever.
