Valencia Pursue Harvey Elliott Loan from Liverpool
Valencia are lining up one of the more intriguing moves of the summer – and they’ve set their sights firmly on Harvey Elliott.
The Spanish club have pushed the Liverpool playmaker to the very top of their attacking shortlist, sensing an opportunity as the England international slips down the pecking order under Andoni Iraola at Anfield.
Valencia move fast for sidelined Elliott
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, talks are already under way between Valencia, Liverpool and the player’s camp, with all sides working to accelerate a loan deal. The conversations are described as positive. Elliott has reportedly told Iraola he wants to leave Anfield for Mestalla, and there is a growing belief a loan agreement can be tied up without a long saga.
Valencia head coach Carlos Corberán has stepped in personally. As reported by Spanish newspaper “Marca”, Corberán contacted the 23-year-old directly to sell him the project and the role he would play in La Liga. The response was exactly what Valencia hoped for: Elliott is said to be excited by the chance to test himself in Spain and wear the Valencia shirt.
Inside the club, the plan is clear. They see Elliott as a creative fulcrum, someone who can slip between the lines, break open deep defences and carry the ball with intent from midfield, while chipping in with goals.
A stalled spell at Villa
Elliott’s last campaign underlined why he now needs a reset. Sent on loan to Aston Villa, he managed only 9 appearances in all competitions. One more outing would have changed everything: the loan agreement included a clause obliging Villa to make the move permanent for £35 million if he reached 10 games.
Unai Emery, then in charge at Villa Park, admitted that the situation weighed heavily on the player as the season wore on. The minutes dried up, the trigger was never pulled, and Elliott returned to Liverpool this summer with his future still unresolved.
From Klopp favourite to the fringes
Since arriving from Fulham in 2019, Elliott has built up a substantial body of work at Liverpool, amassing 149 appearances. He played a major role in Jürgen Klopp’s farewell season, featuring 53 times and often injecting energy and craft when called upon.
The landscape has shifted quickly. Elliott has slipped out of the plans of former boss Arne Slot and now Iraola, who omitted him from the latest matchday squad against Newcastle. The decision felt decisive. With that single selection call, the hierarchy in midfield was laid bare: others are ahead of him.
