AFC Wimbledon Assistant Manager Terry Skiverton Diagnosed with Throat Cancer
AFC Wimbledon assistant manager Terry Skiverton has been diagnosed with throat cancer and will begin treatment in the coming weeks, the club have confirmed.
Skiverton, 51, had already stepped away from his role earlier this year after announcing in July that he needed time out to recover from ankle surgery. What initially looked like a difficult but straightforward spell on the sidelines has now turned into a far more serious battle.
In a statement, the League One club said Skiverton had encountered “further health challenges” since that announcement and outlined the support network around him as he prepares for treatment.
The club confirmed he has been receiving backing from the League Managers Association in recent months, stressing that Wimbledon will “continue to stand alongside him and his family throughout his treatment and recovery”. They added that everyone at AFC Wimbledon sends “heartfelt best wishes” as he readies himself for the next stage of his fight.
Skiverton joined Wimbledon in May 2022 as assistant to Johnnie Jackson and quickly became a key figure behind the scenes. His influence was felt in the dressing room and on the training ground as the club climbed back to League One, sealing promotion through the play-offs in 2025.
For now, the touchline will have to wait. The next contest in Skiverton’s life will be fought away from the roar of the crowd, but with a club, an association and a football community firmly in his corner.
