Alvaro Gonzalez Shares Insight on Cristiano Ronaldo’s Personality Away from the Spotlight
Former Al-Nassr defender Alvaro Gonzalez has given a revealing account of what Cristiano Ronaldo is really like behind closed doors. During their time together at the Saudi club, Gonzalez described Ronaldo as approachable and humble away from the cameras but a fierce competitor once on the field.
Inside the Dressing Room
Speaking about his experience sharing a locker room with the Portuguese superstar, Gonzalez told Radio MARCA that Ronaldo was “absolutely fantastic” around teammates. The Spaniard emphasized that Ronaldo always supported those around him and maintained a down-to-earth attitude after joining Al-Nassr in Riyadh.
“Inside the dressing room, he’s a completely normal person, approachable and someone who helps you,” Gonzalez said. “Honestly, and after confirming it with other team-mates we’ve had in common, he’s absolutely fantastic inside the dressing room.”
A Sudden Shift on Matchday
The tone changes dramatically when Ronaldo steps onto the pitch. Gonzalez described the instant transformation from a supportive teammate to a driven competitor:
“From the moment he leaves the dressing room and steps onto the pitch, he completely changes. He’s a competitive beast.”
This fierce determination was visible during training sessions too, where both players often faced off in tough physical challenges. Despite these intense battles, their relationship stayed friendly off the field.
“Afterwards, we’d go to the jacuzzi, have some laughs and joke around, and it would all be forgotten,” Gonzalez explained.

Gonzalez also acknowledged Ronaldo’s place among football legends alongside Lionel Messi:
“People like him and [Lionel] Messi will go down in the history of football.”

The duo shared the pitch in 11 matches across all competitions during the 2022-23 season, with Al-Nassr winning six of those games before Gonzalez left the club. Now 41 and signed until June 2027, Ronaldo continues chasing the incredible milestone of 1,000 official goals.
