Moments later, the veteran Messi leveled the score with a fierce shot after a loose ball fell his way. With extra time looming, Lautaro Martinez delivered a looping cross to Enzo Fernandez, who sealed the comeback with a precise header.

The celebrations were intense, with Messi visibly moved after the final whistle. Despite being favored in what was considered an easier bracket, Argentina has struggled against both Cape Verde and Egypt, producing unexpectedly thrilling matches.

Switzerland Prevail Over Colombia in Penalty Shootout

Compared to the drama in Atlanta, the match between Switzerland and Colombia in Vancouver was more cautious and tactical. Both teams seemed prepared to settle matters through penalties early on.

Colombia created the better opportunities, especially in extra time, outshooting the Swiss 8-1 in the final 30 minutes. But they failed to capitalize before the shootout.

Davinson Sanchez of Colombia hit the crossbar with his penalty, giving Switzerland an opening. Manuel Akanji missed his spot kick too, firing over the bar, keeping things tense. Colombia’s Juan Hernandez then saw his attempt saved by goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. After Cedric Itten and Luis Diaz exchanged successful penalties, Ruben Vargas converted the winning spot kick, sending Murat Yakin’s team through.
