On Barcola’s side, there is no obvious barrier.

He is understood to be open to joining Liverpool, and personal terms are not expected to be an issue. The same report indicates he “could also be open to Arsenal”, with the pull of London flagged as a possible factor for the 23-year-old.

That flexibility hands Arsenal a platform. If Liverpool walk away over the fee, Barcola’s openness to a move to London gives the Gunners a route into a deal that, right now, belongs to someone else’s negotiation table.

The catch is obvious. Arsenal would run straight into the same wall Liverpool are currently hitting.

PSG’s valuation does not change depending on the badge on the other side of the table. Any Arsenal move would still have to confront the £130m-plus demand, which is why this remains a finely balanced watch rather than an active chase.

Arsenal have already explored ambitious attacking options this summer. Names like Julian Alvarez and Kenan Yildiz continue to crop up around their forward planning. That wider search shapes how bold they can be on Barcola. Spend huge on one, and other doors close.

For now, Barcola sits on the “one to watch” list. Liverpool could yet come back with improved terms. Arsenal could sense the opening and pounce. Or PSG could simply hold their ground and wait for the market to bend to their number.
