Arsenal Negotiates Reiss Nelson Move to West Ham
Arsenal are in talks with West Ham over a move for Reiss Nelson, as the winger edges towards the exit door in the final year of his contract.
The 26-year-old has spent the past two seasons trying to restart his career away from north London, first at Brentford and then at Fulham, and has returned this summer to find there is still no clear pathway into Mikel Arteta’s plans. Arsenal are now actively working to secure him a move.
West Ham push for promotion – and for Nelson
West Ham have approached Arsenal to explore a deal as they build a squad aimed squarely at promotion from the Championship. They see Nelson as a high-impact addition in wide areas, and Arsenal have responded positively.
Standard Sport understands the Gunners would welcome a move to West Ham for Nelson and have given encouragement to the Hammers as negotiations continue over the structure of a potential deal. A permanent transfer is Arsenal’s preferred outcome.
The key question sits with the player. Dropping into the Championship is not an automatic yes for a winger who still believes he can operate at the top level. Personal terms have not yet been discussed, and Nelson is weighing up his options.

He does not lack admirers. Several clubs have registered interest this summer, including Benfica, now managed by Marco Silva. The Portuguese coach knows Nelson well, having taken him to Fulham two seasons ago, and that existing relationship offers a different kind of pull compared with a Championship promotion project.
Arsenal, though, are clear on their stance. They would rather cash in now than lose Nelson for nothing next year. If a permanent sale cannot be agreed, another loan has been floated. In that scenario, the club hold an option to extend his contract by 12 months to protect his value, a safety net they are prepared to use.
Jesus and Vieira also available
Nelson is not the only senior player who could depart before the window closes. Arsenal are open to selling Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira as they continue to reshape the squad around Arteta’s core.
Jesus, once the headline arrival from Manchester City, is available for up to £20million. He has been linked with Napoli, but as things stand Arsenal have not received a formal approach from the Italian champions. For now, it is interest rather than action.
Vieira, meanwhile, is another asset the club are prepared to move on if the right offer arrives, a sign of how quickly the standards and expectations around Arsenal’s first-team squad have shifted.
Setford set for loan
At the other end of the ladder, Arsenal are looking for a loan move for young goalkeeper Tommy Setford. The priority is simple: regular first-team football this season, somewhere he can play rather than watch.
