Charlton Athletic Signs Kenya Midfielder Timothy Ouma on Loan

Charlton Athletic have moved to strengthen their midfield with the signing of Kenya international Timothy Ouma from Slavia Prague on a season-long loan, with an option to make the deal permanent.

It is not a speculative punt. Nathan Jones has wanted this profile of midfielder for some time, and Ouma has been on Charlton’s radar long before this window.

“Timothy is a player that we've monitored for a long, long time, and he comes with a real good pedigree,” Jones told the club’s official website. “He's an athletic, technical midfield player who has had some good experience, and he'll add real quality to our midfield.”

That pedigree has been built the hard way.

Ouma came through at Nairobi City Stars in his home city, emerging as one of the most exciting young players in the Kenyan game before earning a move to Europe. In the summer of 2022 he joined IF Elfsborg, stepping straight into the intensity of the Swedish top flight.

He did not just survive there; he grew. Over three seasons in Sweden he picked up valuable European experience, making 13 appearances in the Europa League and learning to cope with the demands of continental football and heavy travel schedules.

Those performances drew the attention of Slavia Prague, one of Central Europe’s most established clubs. The Czech side signed him, then sent him on loan to Lech Poznan last season, where he played his part in a title-winning campaign in Poland.

Now comes the next chapter in south London.

For Charlton, Ouma brings a blend of athleticism and technique in the middle of the pitch, a player used to high-tempo leagues and the physical edge of European competition. For Ouma, The Valley offers a platform in English football and the chance to turn a loan spell into something more permanent if both sides like what they see.
