Barcelona have been hit with an early-season setback after Hansi Flick confirmed that Andreas Christensen faces several weeks out with a muscle injury.

The defender was forced off around the hour mark in the win over Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, cutting a frustrated figure as he made his way to the bench. Any hope that it was precautionary disappeared once Flick spoke post-match.

“He'll be out for several weeks. It's a muscle injury. He'll have more tests tomorrow,” the Barcelona coach told reporters, drawing a clear line under any optimism about a quick return.

For Denmark, the news lands at the worst possible time. Christensen will now withdraw from the national team squad ahead of their Nations League fixtures over the international break, depriving Kasper Hjulmand of one of his defensive leaders.
