Danilo's Plan: One Last Season with Flamengo

Danilo has his timeline. And he’s saying it out loud.

The veteran defender, back at the club he calls home, laid out his plan at Ninho do Urubu: push his body through one last cycle, sign one last deal, and close his career in a Flamengo shirt in 2027.

“In 2026, I had very little time to reflect and assess; there was a World Cup in between, and at 35 years old, I had to dedicate myself immensely physically to measure up and be well prepared,” he explained, describing a year dominated by international duty and physical sacrifice rather than contract talks.

Only now, he says, has the noise died down enough for him to think clearly.

“Now is when I've had more peace of mind to think about it. Flamengo and I have been talking, and I hope 2027 is the year we can be together so I can play the final year of my career.”

The message is simple: one more year, at home, on his terms.

Danilo underlined that negotiations with the club are moving smoothly, with no hint of friction between player and board. For a defender who has lived the pressure of Madrid and City, this feels different – slower, more personal, rooted in sentiment as much as in performance.

“We have spoken very calmly,” he said. “Both sides share the desire to move forward, to put together another beautiful year, and a year where I can truly say ‘this is the last year of my career’ and finish at the club of my heart, in a project I believed in and that has been working.”

He doesn’t see any barriers in the way of that farewell season.

“I don't think there are any obstacles preventing this from happening, and hopefully in 2027 we can be together, finish my career at Flamengo, and, God willing, win a major trophy – that would be wonderful.”

One last contract. One last push for silverware. Danilo has drawn the line in time: 2027, Flamengo, and a final shot at a title to match the story he wants his career to tell.
