Diogo Dalot Praises Gonçalo Ramos and Rafael Leao at Milan
Diogo Dalot knows what it means to arrive at San Siro with expectations on your shoulders. He did it himself in 2020, when he spent a season on loan at Milan. Now, watching from Manchester, he sees two familiar Portuguese faces carrying that weight for the Rossoneri – and he could not be more impressed.
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by MilanNews.it, the Manchester United full-back reserved glowing praise for Gonçalo Ramos, who has made a fast start to life in Italy.
“I think Gonçalo is a fantastic player to have in the team. The way he works, the way he trains, the way he behaves, the way he's always ready to help the team,” Dalot said. “I believe he's been a fantastic signing for the club and I'm really happy he's had this opportunity, because it's a fantastic club. I think he'll really enjoy his time in Milan and I hope he can help the club achieve success and fight for every trophy this season.”
Dalot’s words carry weight. He knows the dressing room, the demands, the noise around Milan. His message is simple: Ramos fits.
A different bond with Leao
If his admiration for Ramos is professional, his feelings for Rafael Leao run much deeper. Dalot has grown up alongside him, watched his evolution from talented teenager to one of Serie A’s most devastating forwards.
“I've known Leao since I was 15 and I've talked about him many times,” he said. “He's a great person, a great human being with a big heart, as well as being a fantastic footballer. That's what makes him special, and I think Milan's fans recognise that too.”
Leao’s future has hovered over this summer’s transfer window, with the Portugal international linked with a move and Galatasaray among the clubs reportedly interested. Through the noise, Dalot chose to underline the bond between player, club and supporters.
“For all the years he's been there playing for the club, I think it's important for him to also feel that the fans like him and that the whole environment around him cares for him,” he continued. “And I think in recent years it's been a fantastic partnership. So I really hope he can continue to be successful there, win more trophies, and be one of the best players the club has ever had.”
From someone who has worn both the Milan shirt and the Portugal badge alongside them, it is a clear verdict: in Dalot’s eyes, Ramos and Leao are not just good fits for Milan’s present. They are players who can help define what comes next at San Siro.
