Estevao, the Chelsea winger, has expressed deep appreciation after being called back to the Brazil national team for upcoming friendlies against Australia and India. The 19-year-old revealed his emotional journey through a severe injury that forced him to miss the 2026 World Cup.
First Call-Up Since Hamstring Injury
Estevao officially returned to the Brazil squad during a press conference held in Brisbane, Australia. He was named by coach Carlo Ancelotti for the FIFA Super Date fixtures, which include two matches versus Australia and one against India. This is his first international call-up since tearing his right hamstring while playing for Chelsea in April 2026.
The injury, initially treated conservatively at Palmeiras, ended his chances of participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

"My family was fundamental to me during this injury period, which isn't very easy for an athlete," Estevao said. "We missed a very special moment, but they were always by my side. I also used a lot of the word resilience, facing each day, forgetting what happened and focusing on the future."

Before his injury, Estevao had a strong start internationally under Carlo Ancelotti, scoring against teams like Chile, South Korea, Senegal, and Tunisia. Looking ahead, he is eager to secure a starting spot alongside teammates Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior. The young forward dismissed any feelings of anxiety, seeing the selection as an honor and motivation.
"I don't think it's anxiety, I think it's a privilege," he explained. "Every player who is chosen here is privileged. Being chosen by Ancelotti is a privilege for me. I see this as motivation to give my best every day in training and in games."

Brazil begins their tour against Australia on Friday at Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville. They will face Australia again on September 29 at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, followed by a match against India on October 3 at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
