Fabio Vieira Completes €10m Move to Hamburg from Arsenal

Fabio Vieira has ended his stop-start Arsenal spell by sealing a permanent move to Hamburg in a €10m (£8.6m) deal, turning last season’s loan into a full-time Bundesliga switch.

The 26-year-old midfielder, who arrived in north London from Porto in 2022, never fully nailed down a starting role under Mikel Arteta but still clocked up 49 appearances across all competitions. His Arsenal career effectively stalled over the past two seasons, first with a loan back at Porto in 2024-25 and then at Hamburg last term, where he finally found rhythm and regular minutes.

Hamburg have now moved to keep him, backing his resurgence with a significant fee and handing Vieira the chance to build a stable chapter in Germany after two years of drifting between clubs.

For Arsenal, it is another piece of a wider clear-out.

Vieira was firmly on the list of players the club were prepared to move on, with the hierarchy looking to reshape the squad and raise funds. Forwards Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli are also expected to depart on permanent deals, signalling a major refresh of the attacking and creative core that once defined Arteta’s early rebuild.

While established names head for the exit, one of the club’s brightest academy products is set to take his first big step into senior European football. Ethan Nwaneri, the highly rated teenager who has been fast-tracked through Arsenal’s youth ranks, is close to sealing a loan move to Borussia Dortmund.

Hamburg get a playmaker they already know. Arsenal get room to maneuver and money to reinvest. Nwaneri, if his Dortmund move is completed, gets a proving ground on one of the biggest stages for young talent.

The churn at Arsenal is real. The question now is what – and who – comes next.
