Giuseppe Rossi on Marcus Rashford's Future at Everton
Giuseppe Rossi believes Everton might just be the club to relight Marcus Rashford’s career.
The former Manchester United and Villarreal striker, who rebuilt his own reputation after leaving Old Trafford, has tipped Rashford for a move away from United and sees Hill Dickinson Stadium as a potential stage for his revival.
Rossi knows the journey well. He arrived at United from Parma in 2004, burst through with four goals in 14 games, then left for Spain and wrote his name into Villarreal history. Across six years, despite suffering two ACL injuries, he became the club’s all-time leading scorer, later turning out for Fiorentina and Levante before retiring in 2023 at 36.
Since hanging up his boots, Rossi has moved into punditry, and his latest focus is Rashford. The 28-year-old spent last season on loan at Barcelona and is back at Manchester United with his long-term future unclear.
Rossi is convinced the relationship between Rashford and United has run its course.
Speaking to Bet Brothers, he said: “Marcus Rashford needs to go to another club for his own sake. I think his time as a Manchester United player has run its course. It’s very interesting that Barcelona didn’t keep him because I thought he was a pretty good player for them, and a good fit for how they play in the end.
“I don’t think he feels like a Manchester United player anymore, he doesn’t have that mentality, and you don’t want those sorts of players around your club, bringing down what you’re trying to build. It would be the best thing for everyone if they could all move on quickly this summer.”
As Everton weigh up their options on the left, Rossi’s suggestion lands at an intriguing moment. CEO Angus Kinnear has confirmed the club are still monitoring Jack Grealish’s situation after his loan spell on Merseyside, though the Manchester City man came off the bench in the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal at the weekend.
If Grealish proves out of reach, Rossi believes David Moyes should look down the East Lancs Road for an alternative wide threat.
“Could Rashford go and reinvent himself in Italy as Scott McTominay has? It’s an interesting idea but I don’t see him thriving in Serie A. The league is too tactical. I think Rashford still fits the English way of playing best, although truthfully he did well at Barcelona.
“He needs a move to another Premier League club this summer, and it would be cool to see him at a side like Tottenham Hotspur or Everton. He needs a club where he’ll be given the chance to feel free to play his way and bring the team back some glory. He would do well in that sort of environment.”
For Rossi, that “environment” might be exactly what Everton are trying to build. The question now is whether the Blues are ready to turn admiration into a serious move for one of English football’s most scrutinised forwards.
