Hannah Hampton Commits to Chelsea for Two More Years
Chelsea have secured one of the most important signatures of their summer, tying England No 1 Hannah Hampton to a new two-year contract at Kingsmeadow.
The deal ends any doubt over the 25-year-old’s future, with her previous contract due to expire this summer, and underlines Chelsea’s intent to reset after a bruising 2025-26 campaign that fell well below their own standards.
Cornerstone of club and country
Since arriving from Aston Villa in 2023, Hampton has climbed rapidly into the elite tier of goalkeepers in the women’s game. She has not just grown into Chelsea’s undisputed first choice; she has also cemented herself as England’s mainstay between the posts for the Lionesses.

“I'm really happy,” she said. “Chelsea have always been my dream club to play for in England so to be able to extend for another two years is a proud moment.
“When I moved to London from the Midlands, it was my first time moving away from home and everyone at Chelsea made it feel like a home away from home and somewhere I have been able to grow, not only as a player, but as a person.
“I don't want that journey to stop and I want to continue to grow more and learn more as a person. I know there is so much more I can achieve and so much more, we as a team, can achieve.
“I am going to do everything I can to help Chelsea get back to being as successful as we have been in the past.”
That last line cuts to the heart of why this renewal matters. Chelsea’s recent dip has hurt a dressing room used to setting the pace. Keeping the spine intact is non-negotiable if they are to respond with the kind of season that has become their trademark.
The safest hands in the WSL
Domestically, Hampton’s numbers have matched the eye test. She has claimed back-to-back Golden Glove awards in the WSL, a reflection of both Chelsea’s defensive structure and her own consistency. When Chelsea chased that unbeaten treble in 2024-25, she was the calm at the centre of the storm, repelling late surges, organising the back line, turning tight games into routine wins.
The pressure finally told on opponents who once fancied their chances against a transitioning Chelsea. Time and again, Hampton shut the door.
Her renewal also continues a clear pattern at the club.
