Hansi Flick Explains Alejandro Balde's Absence from Barcelona Squad

Hansi Flick has delivered a blunt explanation for Alejandro Balde’s absence from his first Barcelona squad of the new season.

As Barça began the defence of their La Liga crown away to Elche at the Estadio Martínez Valero, the German coach named a powerful group for his competitive bow, including new signings Karim Adeyemi, Anthony Gordon and João Cancelo.

Balde was nowhere to be seen.

The left-back, whose future has been the subject of intense speculation in recent days amid talk of a possible Camp Nou exit, did not even make the bench for the league opener.

Pressed on that decision before kick-off, Flick did not hide behind fitness bulletins or vague tactical talk. He revealed a frank conversation with the Spain international earlier in the day:

"I spoke with Alejandro Balde today and said to him that I think you're not here 109%, so it's best that you stay at home and clear your mind. We will talk again tomorrow."

One of the club’s brightest young talents left at home, his coach demanding total focus. The season has only just started, but for Balde and Barcelona, the next conversation already feels decisive.
