Harry Kane Prepares for Bayern Munich Contract Talks

Harry Kane is not waiting for the clock to run down in Munich. With a year left on his Bayern Munich deal, the England captain says he is prepared to sit down with the Bundesliga champions and discuss extending his stay in Germany.

The 33-year-old striker, who joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2023 for £86.4m on a four-year contract, has just entered its final 12 months. The timing is no accident.

“We obviously said we wanted to talk after the World Cup and after my holiday,” Kane said. “So I'm not sure exactly when, but they'll start this week, next week... we'll start those talks.”

The numbers behind that calmness are brutal. Kane hit 61 goals in 51 games in all competitions last season as Vincent Kompany’s side completed a league and cup double, underlining his status as the focal point of Bayern’s attack and one of the most ruthless finishers in Europe.

He insists there is no tension around the negotiating table.

“Like I've said before, we're calm, I think they're calm with the situation,” he added. “Obviously now is the time to start talking, because there's only a year left. That's important. But both sides are relaxed, and I'm pretty sure there'll be some talks this week or next week.”

Kane’s impact in Germany has been relentless. Across three Bundesliga campaigns he has scored 98 goals in 94 league appearances, collecting three consecutive Bundesliga Golden Boot awards and reshaping the standards expected of a centre-forward in the division.

His form has travelled with him onto the biggest stage. At the 2026 World Cup he scored six times for England, becoming the country’s all-time leading World Cup scorer with 14 goals in 18 matches. That haul has pushed him firmly into the conversation for the 2026 Ballon d'Or.

“The Ballon d'Or is as big as it gets, from an individual point of view,” he said. “I know I had a great season last season, but the focus is on this new season.”

Kane knows the decision over the game’s biggest individual prize is now out of his hands.

“The Ballon d'Or's not in my hands. I've done what I can do in terms of putting in the performances. It's now down to votes and other people and the media - stuff I can't control - so we'll see what happens.

“Obviously, it would be amazing if it was to happen. But ultimately, it's still two or three months away before that's decided so it's not something that's at the front of my mind right now.”

Contract talks on one side, Ballon d'Or noise on the other. Kane has planted himself in the middle, where he usually operates best — in the box, with another season in Munich to shape both his future and Bayern’s next era.
