Inter Milan Target Federico Chiesa After Curtis Jones Transfer
Liverpool’s summer clear-out has already sent Curtis Jones to Inter Milan. Now the Italian champions are circling Anfield again – this time for Federico Chiesa.
The Euro 2020 winner, who arrived on Merseyside from Juventus in 2024 for around £12.5 million, has never truly settled into life at Liverpool. At 28, and on a reported £150,000 a week, he owns a Premier League winner’s medal but not a guaranteed place in the team.
Inter eye Chiesa after Jones deal
Inter completed the Jones deal on Friday, a transfer that could climb to £30m, and immediately turned their gaze back towards Liverpool’s squad. The first move was for a midfielder. The second could be for a winger.
Cristian Chivu’s side are preparing to cash in on Luis Henrique, with the Brazilian expected to join Roma for about €25m. That sale would create both the space and the funds for another attacking signing – and Chiesa has emerged as a leading candidate.
Inter-focused journalist Fabio Bergomi believes the Liverpool winger is firmly in the frame.
“Chiesa could be the one who goes in place of Luis Henrique, if Luis Henrique accepts Roma, as seems to be the case,” he told his YouTube audience, adding that he would “narrow it down to Chiesa” as a plausible solution for Inter.
The message is clear: if Luis Henrique moves, Inter want a ready-made replacement. Chiesa fits the profile – experienced, versatile, and available at the right price if Liverpool decide to cash in.
Bit-part champion, uncertain future
Chiesa’s Liverpool story never really caught fire. He arrived with pedigree, power and a reputation as a big-game player, but found himself on the fringes as others seized the spotlight.
Last season under Arne Slot, he started just two Premier League matches and failed to convince in either. The Dutchman has not been won over in pre-season, and the Italian has slipped further down the pecking order at Anfield.
On paper, Chiesa should be in the thick of Liverpool’s plans. In reality, he is edging towards the exit door – provided the club receive an offer that matches their valuation.
Injury clouds and transfer noise
Chiesa has been missing from training in the build-up to Liverpool’s season opener against Newcastle, a detail that inevitably fuelled talk of an imminent move. But that absence is understood to be down to another injury setback rather than any advanced negotiations.
So the situation hangs in the balance. Inter have already raided Liverpool once this window. They have a gap opening up in their attack. Chiesa needs minutes, a central role, and a manager ready to build around his strengths.
If Roma seal Luis Henrique, Inter’s next call is obvious. The only question is whether Liverpool are ready to let a Euro 2020 winner follow Curtis Jones through the door marked “San Siro.”
