Juventus Pursue Alisson with Player-Swap Proposal

Juventus are weighing up a bold move to prise Alisson Becker away from Liverpool – and they are ready to put a player on the table to make it happen.

Liverpool are heading into a summer that could rip up the core of their modern era. Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson are already confirmed to be leaving Anfield as free agents in May, two pillars of a side that scaled both England and Europe. Now the prospect of Alisson following them out of the door is no longer a distant worry. It is a live scenario.

Arne Slot’s team still have a job to finish on the pitch, chasing a top-five Premier League spot, but behind the scenes the planning is harsher, colder. Life after their long-serving No 1 has to be mapped out while he is still in goal.

Juventus ready to use Di Gregorio as leverage

In Italy, the picture is becoming clearer. According to journalist Romeo Agresti, via juvefcdotcom on X, Juventus’ pursuit of Alisson would almost certainly spell the end of Michele Di Gregorio’s brief stint as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Di Gregorio only made his move from Monza permanent last year and, at 28, should be entering his peak. He has shown flashes of that potential in Turin. Sharp reflexes, good presence, enough big saves to hint at a long-term solution.

But he has not fully won over Luciano Spalletti, and that doubt is opening the door to something bigger.

Juventus are exploring a deal that would send Di Gregorio to Liverpool as a makeweight, trimming the transfer fee required to tempt the Premier League leaders into selling Alisson. For the Italian club, it is a way to land an elite, battle-tested goalkeeper without paying the full premium in cash.

From Liverpool’s perspective, the idea is not without appeal. Di Gregorio would arrive as a seasoned option who could either back up or directly compete with Giorgi Mamardashvili next season. With one major departure confirmed on each flank of their defence, having a ready-made, experienced goalkeeper in the package softens the blow of losing another cornerstone.

There is, however, a crucial catch. Any agreement hinges on Alisson accepting a reduction in his annual salary to make the move viable. Juventus can offer the stage, the shirt, and a return to Serie A. Matching his current Liverpool wages is another matter.

Time for Liverpool to move on?

This is where sentiment collides with reality.

Alisson is woven into Liverpool’s modern history. He was central to two Premier League titles and the 2019 Champions League triumph, a goalkeeper whose presence alone changed the club’s ceiling. At his peak, he was arguably the most complete keeper in the world.

But the body has started to argue back.

He played 51 games in his debut season, then 42 in 2020-21, followed by 54 and 47 in the next two campaigns. Four years of relentless service at the highest level. Since then, the numbers have dropped off sharply. Across the last three seasons, injuries have clipped his availability: 32 appearances in 2023-24, 35 in 2024-25 and 35 so far in the current campaign.

For a club that builds its defensive structure around the reliability of its goalkeeper, that is a problem that cannot be ignored.

Liverpool did not sign Mamardashvili to watch from the bench forever. They gave him a year to adjust to English football, to the pace, the chaos, the scrutiny. That bedding-in period may now be approaching its intended purpose: a handover.

So the question facing Liverpool is brutal but clear. Do they cash in on a 33-year-old legend whose availability is declining, using the funds – and potentially Di Gregorio – to reshape the position? Or do they cling to what he once was and hope the injuries ease?

Juventus are ready if the answer points towards a clean break.
