Juventus Sign Nick Woltemade on Loan from Newcastle

Juventus have struck a season-long loan deal for Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade, moving quickly to land a striker before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

The 24-year-old will join on a straight loan with no option or obligation to buy after the clubs agreed a fee of around £3.5m. Woltemade is expected in Turin for a medical as Juventus close in on attacking cover for the new campaign.

Juventus pick Woltemade over Zirkzee

Juventus had cast the net wide across Europe for a forward and held talks with Manchester United over Joshua Zirkzee, whose proposed switch to Fiorentina collapsed. United pushed for an obligation-to-buy clause in any deal for Zirkzee. Juventus walked away.

Woltemade offered a cleaner route. Cheaper, more flexible, and viewed in Turin as a better tactical fit, he arrives on terms that keep Juventus’ options open beyond this season.

The move comes as Jonathan David edges towards a loan to Atletico Madrid, leaving Juventus needing another attacking option to balance their front line.

Newcastle’s record signing moves on

Newcastle only signed Woltemade from Stuttgart in August 2025, investing heavily as part of a refreshed attacking project. He became the club’s £69m record signing but has struggled to nail down a starting role under new manager Matthias Jaissle.

So far this season, Woltemade has started just one of Jaissle’s first three matches. He did make an impact off the bench at the weekend, coming on to set up Yoane Wissa’s goal in Newcastle’s 2-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur, but that cameo has not altered his short-term trajectory.

Newcastle’s willingness to sanction the loan has been tied closely to their own business. BBC Sport had already indicated that a deal for Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo would open the door for Woltemade’s exit, and the dominoes have now fallen.

Fernandez-Pardo flew into Tyneside on Monday evening to finalise a transfer worth up to £55m, giving Newcastle fresh firepower and clearing space for Woltemade’s Italian move.

So Woltemade heads to Turin with a point to prove, Juventus get their forward without a long-term commitment, and Newcastle roll the dice on a new attacking focal point. The only question now is who will make that gamble look smartest by the season’s end.
