Leny Yoro Talks Man Utd Challenges and Readies for Key Atletico Madrid Clash
Leny Yoro, the Manchester United defender, remains confident about the team’s potential to bounce back despite a tough start to the season. The French player revealed that the squad has been holding frank discussions in the dressing room to confront their recent dip in form.
Squad Unity and Handling Pressure at Old Trafford
The mood at Old Trafford is tense as Man Utd prepare for a crucial Champions League match against Atletico Madrid in Spain. After settling for a late draw against a ten-man Tottenham Hotspur, the club has recorded its worst start since 1986. Yoro downplays worries, emphasizing the squad’s mental toughness to overcome difficulties.
"I have faith in the team and in us. I’m confident that in the upcoming matches we will improve and continue to move forward. I’m not particularly worried about this situation. All teams can go through difficulties at the start of a season. We are prepared to face them and keep working," Yoro told Marca.
He stressed the importance of honesty within the team. Private conversations have been held to accept responsibility and find ways to improve. "Sometimes you have to tell it like it is. And we have. We will continue to do so. We have to face reality and improve," Yoro added.
Adapting to a New Defensive Role
Recently, Yoro has been assigned to right-back, a departure from his usual central defense position. Many young players might struggle with such a shift under pressure, but the 20-year-old has welcomed the chance to support the team wherever needed. His adaptability has impressed the coaching staff.
"It’s a position I can play. If I have to play there, I’m ready. I also like playing there. Of course, it has different aspects, but you have to adapt. I think you always have to be prepared. Whatever position on the field, I’m ready to play," Yoro explained.
Guidance from Experienced Teammates
Yoro praised senior defenders Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez for their mentorship. Despite competition for starting spots, the veteran duo has helped him settle quickly into Manchester United’s environment, contributing to his development during his first three seasons at the club.
"They help me improve a lot every day, especially in training. I talk to them a lot and they help me grow. This is my third season here and I felt like a Manchester United player from day one. I’m very happy with how this season has started, but I know I can still improve. They also help me a lot in this process," Yoro shared.
Looking Ahead to Atletico Madrid
As Manchester United prepare to face Atletico Madrid, Yoro remains unfazed by the expected hostile environment in Madrid. Known for their intense style and passionate fans, Diego Simeone’s team represents a big challenge, but the youngster insists his preparation does not change based on the opponent or stakes involved.
"Of course there’s pressure, but it’s not something that particularly affects me. I’m going to prepare for it exactly the same as any other match," Yoro said.
