Liverpool Nears Major Transfer with Bradley Barcola from PSG
Liverpool are edging towards one of the most eye‑catching deals of the summer, with Bradley Barcola now close to a move from PSG to the Premier League, according to reports in France.
Loïc Tanzi of L’Équipe claims the France international is “expected to become the biggest transfer of a Ligue 1 player to a foreign club”, a line that underlines the scale of what Liverpool are trying to pull off.
Liverpool push for firepower
The club are understood to be in the market for at least two attacking signings and are open to a third, with Barcola, 23, right at the heart of that plan. The long-running pursuit has dragged on for weeks, but the endgame finally feels near.
PSG, though, are not rolling over.
Tanzi reports that the French champions remain firm on a €140m (£119.7m) valuation in the latest round of talks. That figure, shared by the journalist on social media on August 24, still represents a substantial climbdown from earlier in the window, when Barcola’s price was believed to be closer to €170m (£145.3m).
That drop matters. It pulls negotiations nearer to the benchmark PSG have been eyeing in recent Premier League business, notably Manchester City’s move for Elliot Anderson at £116m and Chelsea’s £117m deal for Morgan Rogers. Barcola is being measured against that level.
From the player’s side, there is growing belief. The left-sided winger and his camp are thought to be increasingly confident that an agreement will be struck with Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool. For a saga that has rumbled on all summer, that shift in mood is significant.
A race against the clock
Now comes the squeeze.
Liverpool want at least two forwards in before the window closes. Barcola is one. Another could be close: recent reports suggest a third bid for Yankuba Minteh may finally be enough to get that deal over the line.
If those moves land, the focus inside the club turns to a third attacking recruit, most likely a centre-forward, to ensure Iraola starts his first season with a deep, varied front line.
The urgency is obvious. There are only seven days left to get all of this done. Three signings in a week is a heavy lift, even for a club used to moving quickly when the moment demands it. The pressure now sits squarely on Richard Hughes and his recruitment team.
Gaps that won’t go away
Even if Liverpool hit their attacking targets, the squad will not look complete.
Central midfield remains light, at least in terms of numbers and profiles, yet Iraola is said to be convinced he can patch the holes with what he already has. It is a bold stance, given the physical and tactical demands of a full Premier League and European campaign.
Right-back looks even more precarious. Jeremie Frimpong stands as the only senior specialist in that position, leaving Liverpool one injury away from a serious structural problem. There is no clear indication yet of how the club intend to address that imbalance before the deadline.
Strip it all back and the picture is clear: Liverpool are pushing hard to arm Iraola with elite attacking talent, but the rest of the squad may have to live with shortfalls, at least until January.
If Barcola walks through the doors at Anfield as the most expensive Ligue 1 export in history, it will be a statement. The question is whether Liverpool can match that ambition across the pitch, or whether the first half of 2026/27 will be spent living on the edge.
