Liverpool Fans Demand Clarity Over Jeff Bezos Minority Investment Rumors

The Spirit of Shankly fan group has called on Fenway Sports Group for clear answers after reports surfaced about Amazon founder Jeff Bezos joining a consortium aiming to acquire a significant minority share in Liverpool FC. The fans want to understand how this potential 30 percent sale could affect control and decision-making at Anfield.

Urgent Meeting Requested by Spirit of Shankly

Following widespread speculation that Bezos is part of a group nearing a sizable investment, SoS has formally demanded a meeting with club officials. Their focus is on the future ownership structure and how it might influence football operations. The supporters emphasize that the club’s identity and core values must be preserved amid any changes in leadership.

"Given the circumstances that led to FSG's acquisition of Liverpool, knowing who owns the club and how they govern it—while prioritizing the interests of LFC and its fans—is vital," SoS stated. "The latest news about a 30% stake sale is significant. Custodianship of our club matters deeply to SoS and all supporters."

They expressed worry about how new investors might steer the club, citing examples from other teams where similar sales led to decisions and actions unpopular among fans.

Consortium Wealthy but Mostly New to Sports Ownership

Bezos, with an estimated net worth around £210 billion, is known for owning The Washington Post and aerospace company Blue Origin. Despite his financial power, he lacks direct experience in sports team investments, although he has been linked to NFL franchises before.

The investment group also features Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin and is led by Amit Bhatia, who has a background in sports management. Bhatia, son-in-law of industrialist Lakshmi Mittal, recently stepped down as co-owner and director of Queens Park Rangers after 18 years, making him the only member with substantial sports business experience.

FSG Open to Outside Investment But Fans Seek Assurance

Fenway Sports Group acquired Liverpool in 2010 for £300 million, and the club’s value has soared to roughly £4.5 billion. Last month, FSG confirmed interest from the Bhatia-led consortium in a strategic minority investment. Supporters now await details on board representation and the extent of investor influence before any deal is finalized.
