Liverpool Pursue Sarr as Transfer Deadline Approaches

Liverpool have turned their attention to Crystal Palace winger Sarr, tabling a £50 million bid as the clock ticks down on the transfer window, according to the Mirror.

The move comes after Liverpool abandoned their chase for Minteh, having seen two offers knocked back by Brighton. Both bids fell well short of Brighton’s firm £70m valuation, forcing the Anfield hierarchy to pivot quickly with just five days left before Monday’s deadline.

This is not a luxury hunt. It is a scramble born of loss.

The club is still reeling from the tragic death of Diogo Jota, a blow that has shaken the dressing room and ripped a hole in Liverpool’s attacking depth. On top of that, the departures of Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah have stripped away the wide threat that defined so much of Liverpool’s recent success. Wide forwards are no longer a wish list item; they are a necessity.

Sarr, who joined Crystal Palace two years ago, is understood to be very keen on a switch to Merseyside. His form gives Liverpool plenty of reason to push hard. Over the past season he made 45 appearances in all competitions, scoring 21 goals and adding two assists as Palace went on to lift the UEFA Europa Conference League. He carried that momentum into the summer, shining at the World Cup with four goals before Senegal’s run ended against Belgium in the round of 32.

That kind of output has not gone unnoticed across Europe — or beyond it.

Liverpool are not alone in the chase. Foot Mercato reports that Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal and Turkish champions Galatasaray are both in the race for Sarr. Galatasaray are said to be in advanced negotiations, while Al-Hilal are closely tracking developments, ready to move if the opportunity opens up. Any deal for Liverpool will have to cut through that competition quickly and decisively.

Inside Anfield, the urgency has already been laid bare by manager Iraola. With Tottenham and Manchester City circling Cody Gakpo, the Spaniard has been open about the fragility of his current squad and the need for reinforcements now, not later.

“Some deals you have to wait until the end. But the end is the important picture, the one we will have on September 1, because it is true that we are still quite thin,” he told Sky Sports.

He also admitted the market has not allowed him to build the depth he wanted before the season started, saying he had hoped to double up every position with top-level options but has had to adapt to the reality of the window.

So Liverpool push on Sarr, with time draining away, rivals circling, and their frontline in flux. The question now is simple: can they get this one over the line before the window slams shut?
