Liverpool's Record Bid for Bradley Barcola as Salah Successor
Liverpool have finally put their cards on the table. After weeks of positioning and quiet conversations, the club have launched a huge offer to prise Bradley Barcola away from Paris Saint-Germain in what would be a record sale for the French champions.
Journalist Achille Ashe reports that Liverpool have submitted a proposal worth €120m – €105m up front plus €15m in bonuses – for the France international. PSG are reviewing the bid, with the move now described as “more and more likely” as the offer edges closer to the Paris club’s demands.
This is not a routine window at Anfield. It is a rebuild.
Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konaté and Mohamed Salah have all walked away on free transfers, stripping Liverpool of experience, leadership and, in Salah’s case, a decade-defining goal threat. The attack, once built around the Egyptian’s relentlessness, suddenly has a gaping hole on the right.
That is the context behind Liverpool’s aggressive move for Barcola. He is not just another wide forward on a longlist. He is the chosen heir to one of the most devastating right-sided forwards the Premier League has seen.
Liverpool’s summer had looked strangely subdued. Deals for Osasuna’s Victor Muñoz and Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet were the only pieces of business completed, while rivals across the Premier League moved early and often. The sense grew that Liverpool were waiting for the right moment – and the right player.
Initially, that player was RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, who opened the summer as Liverpool’s primary target to replace Salah. That pursuit is effectively over. Diomande is now set for Real Madrid, forcing Liverpool to pivot decisively towards Barcola, a player they already tried to sign last year when he was valued at around €85m.
This time, the stakes are far higher.
Italian journalist Nicolo Schira revealed on Monday that Liverpool had reached an “agreement in principle” over personal terms with Barcola for a contract running until 2032, with a top-level salary. In other words, the player is on board. The battle now is with PSG.
Ben Jacobs added more detail overnight, outlining the scale of the negotiations. Liverpool have held what he described as “preliminary talks” for Barcola, but formal club-to-club negotiations are only now truly taking shape around this latest bid. The winger is Liverpool’s leading target, yet the deal hinges on price.
PSG’s starting demand of €170m has been viewed at Anfield as “inflated and unrealistic”. Liverpool have no intention of paying double last summer’s valuation, even in a market distorted by other major transfers. PSG’s stance has been influenced by headline-grabbing deals such as Elliot Anderson at £116m and Morgan Rogers at £117m, fees that have reset expectations at the top end of the window.
Liverpool, though, believe they hold a different kind of leverage. Barcola wants to leave. He has two years left on his contract and, according to Jacobs, no desire to sign a new one. The feeling within Liverpool is clear: if PSG do not cash in now, they risk being forced into a far cheaper sale in 2027.
That tension has driven the numbers upwards. From initial interest to a formal offer of €120m, Liverpool have moved into territory that would have seemed unthinkable for a winger still at the start of his career. For PSG, it would represent a record-breaking outgoing transfer. For Liverpool, it would be a statement that the post-Salah era will not be defined by caution.
The offer is on the table. PSG are weighing it up. Liverpool, having lost a modern great for nothing, are now prepared to spend big to secure the next pillar of their attack.
If they land Barcola, the shape of their future changes overnight. If they don’t, where do they turn next in a market that is already stretched to breaking point?
