Liverpool's Transfer Window: Late Moves for Lamine Camara and Ismaila Sarr
Liverpool’s transfer window has rumbled along quietly. It might be about to catch fire.
With a deal finally in place for PSG winger Bradley Barcola after a drawn-out chase, Liverpool’s hierarchy are now being offered late-window opportunities from across Europe. One of the most intriguing comes from Monaco: midfielder Lamine Camara.
According to Ben Jacobs, Monaco have put Camara’s name to both Liverpool and Chelsea as a potential late move, with Crystal Palace having already seen a bid rejected earlier this month. Monaco’s stance is shifting after reaching an agreement in principle with Cruz Azul for midfielder Erik Lira in a package worth around €10m including add-ons, as reported by Luca Bendoni. The French club are expected to move on a non-EU player to make room – and Camara is firmly in that frame.
For Liverpool, the timing is interesting. Curtis Jones has been sold to Inter Milan, leaving a gap in central midfield numbers even as the club look to accelerate the development of highly-rated youngster Trey Nyoni. A fresh central option, particularly one with Camara’s profile, suddenly feels less like a luxury and more like a necessity.
Iraola’s ‘ideally’ window
Andoni Iraola has not tried to hide what he wants. Speaking before Liverpool’s clash with Nottingham Forest, the head coach laid out the club’s priorities with a pointed choice of wording.
“The word is ‘ideally’, ideally is the magic word,” he said when asked if there were other areas he would “ideally” strengthen. “In the end, there are certain things that you can do, certain things that we don’t know if we can do. But it’s true that the priority has been to strengthen in the wide areas.
“Still, we have four, five days, I’m sure if we can improve other areas, we will.”
The wide positions sit at the top of the list. Barcola is one piece of that puzzle. The other, potentially, is Ismaila Sarr.
Liverpool, Sarr and a Senegal double swoop
Crystal Palace’s Senegal star Sarr has been a long-running name on Liverpool’s radar. Miguel Delaney of The Independent reported that Liverpool are still pursuing a deal for the winger, even as new Palace boss Pierre Sage publicly insists the 28-year-old is not for sale.
Reports initially claimed Liverpool had a bid of around £50m turned down. That figure has since been challenged. TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey has been told Liverpool never tabled a formal offer, instead making an enquiry over Sarr’s situation. It is Sarr’s camp who have pushed his name towards Anfield, hoping to turn that enquiry into a concrete bid.
The Senegal angle does not end there. Journalist La Loumance has suggested Camara is “not the only Senegalese who could sign with Liverpool,” hinting that the club could yet move for both Camara and Sarr before the deadline. If that scenario unfolds, Liverpool’s late-window business would be shaped heavily by Senegal’s current generation.
Busy days ahead at Anfield
For now, Camara remains an option rather than an active negotiation, but the mechanics around Monaco’s deal for Erik Lira and the need to sell a non-EU player give this story real traction. Liverpool’s need for another central midfielder after Jones’ departure only sharpens the focus.
What is clear is that Liverpool’s final days of the window will not be quiet. Wide reinforcements are being chased, central options are being offered, and a trusted source has already indicated that any new midfielder is likely to be someone Iraola knows well.
The window closes on September 1. Liverpool’s squad – and possibly their season’s ceiling – could look very different by the time that deadline passes.
