Luis Diaz Impressed by Bayern's New Signing Brown
Luis Diaz has seen a lot in European football. Yet even he admits Bayern Munich’s new signing Brown caught him off guard.
“Spectacular. In the first matches I thought: wow,” Diaz told Sky. “He really surprised me, he has enormous potential.”
Brown arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer for 50 million euros and has wasted no time justifying the fee. His biggest weapon so far? He seems to fit anywhere Kompany needs him.
With Bayern short on numbers, Vincent Kompany pushed the 23-year-old left-back into attacking midfield in the Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund, then again in the league against VfB Stuttgart and FC Schalke 04. Brown handled it, then slipped back to his natural role on the left without fuss.
“This flexibility gives us a big advantage. We have brought in a great player. He will definitely help us move forward,” Diaz said, underlining how quickly Brown has earned respect in the dressing room.
Bayern didn’t stop there in reshaping their squad. Alongside Brown, the club also brought in Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven, another 50-million-euro investment.
“A good lad, and luckily he speaks Spanish. It is very important to have someone here I can talk to in my own language,” Diaz admitted. For all the tactical talk, that detail matters to him.
Diaz vs. the language – and the goal frame
On the pitch, Diaz looks settled. Off it, not everything feels so smooth.
Despite being a year on from his move from Liverpool to Bayern Munich, the 29-year-old concedes that German remains a real challenge.
“The language is certainly one of the few things I struggle with,” he said. “Adapting to that is not so easy. But otherwise I can't complain about anything. The city is incredible. There is so much you can do here if you have the time. I am very happy here.”
Bayern’s start to the season backs that up. Five wins and one draw from their first six competitive games have set a strong early tone. Diaz has chipped in with one goal, but he knows he has left more out there, having recently passed up several good chances.
“I am searching for my best version and I will find it soon,” he insisted. “I think that goal will come in the next game.”
That next chance arrives on Friday, when Bayern host Union Berlin at the Allianz Arena before the international break.
Brown is flying, Saibari is bedding in, and Diaz is hunting that sharper edge in front of goal. If the Colombian’s prediction proves right, Bayern’s already promising start could gather another surge of momentum.
