Mason Mount Offered to AC Milan as Manchester United Reshapes Squad
Manchester United’s midfield overhaul is starting to take on a ruthless edge. One big-name signing is already in the door, more are being lined up, and now a high-profile casualty has emerged: Mason Mount.
According to reports in Italy, United have offered Mount to AC Milan in a deal worth around €25 million (£21.5m), opening the door for the England international to reunite with Ruben Amorim.
United’s summer plan is clear. Strengthen the middle of the pitch, reshape the squad, and sell to buy. A deal is already in place for Atalanta’s Ederson Silva, and the club are still pushing for Matheus Fernandes amid competition from Tottenham Hotspur. To fund that rebuild, they need exits. Significant ones.
Manuel Ugarte was supposed to be part of that solution, but a serious knee injury at the World Cup has effectively shut down any hopes of cashing in on him in this window. The focus has shifted. Mount, a marquee arrival from Chelsea not so long ago, suddenly looks expendable.
Since joining United, Mount has battled injuries and has slipped down the pecking order under Michael Carrick. He has not become the central figure many at Old Trafford expected, and in a squad that needs trimming, his status makes him vulnerable.
In Italy, Milan Press report that United have ‘proposed’ a €25m deal to AC Milan, and that Amorim has already given the “green light” to explore the move. Their report on X stated that “Amorim’s new Milan is gearing up for a transfer window full of big signings, also featuring opportunities and proposals,” before naming Mount as one of the players offered to the club in recent hours.
Crucially, they add that Amorim, who has already worked with Mount at Old Trafford, is open to a reunion and has authorised talks to begin. An “exchange of information” is said to be under way, with Mount’s market value placed at around €25m.
If United do cash in at that price, it would underline just how quickly the landscape has shifted for a player once seen as a cornerstone signing. For Milan, it represents a chance to pick up a technically gifted midfielder entering his prime, with a coach who already knows his game.
While Mount’s future hangs in the balance, another United attacker linked with Milan has been firmly taken off the market.
Amad Diallo, one of the standout performers during Amorim’s time in charge at Old Trafford, has also been mentioned as a possible target for the Serie A side. The logic is obvious: a coach looking to bring trusted attacking weapons with him, and a club scouting for high-upside forwards.
That idea has been shut down from Manchester.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano made United’s stance crystal clear. He reported that, despite “various stories” from Italy linking Diallo with a move to AC Milan and suggesting a transfer away from Old Trafford, the club have no intention of selling.
“Manchester United’s position is very clear. Amad Diallo is not for sale this summer,” Romano said, adding that Michael Carrick has communicated his decision directly to the hierarchy. United “fully expect Amad Diallo to remain part of their plans for the new season” and have no interest in entertaining bids.
The message is blunt: believe the rumours if you like, but the club’s stance “has not changed. They want him to stay at the club.”
So United’s summer picture is starting to sharpen. Ederson Silva arriving. Matheus Fernandes still being chased. Ugarte’s injury closing one door. Mount potentially being used to open another in Milan. And Diallo, one of the most exciting talents in the squad, ring-fenced as a key part of Carrick’s project.
One midfielder out, another in, a young forward locked in for the future. The question now is how far United are prepared to go in reshaping this squad – and whether Mount’s proposed exit is the first major shock of a far more ruthless rebuild.
