Mohamed Salah Welcomes New Son Leil in Liverpool

Mohamed Salah is back in Liverpool for a very different kind of milestone.

The former Anfield star has returned to the city where his wife, Magi, has given birth to their third child – and their first son. The boy has been named Leil, a name that translates to “night” in Arabic and was proudly revealed on social media by Salah’s sister, Rabab.

Salah, now 34, left Liverpool in the summer after he and the club agreed to terminate his contract a year early. The family had spent close to a decade on Merseyside and had originally planned to stay longer, but the two-year deal he signed in 2025 was ripped up 12 months ahead of schedule. The bond with the city, though, never really loosened.

“They feel at home [here],” Salah has said previously of his wife and children. “They were very happy, [wife] Magi and the kids, they were very happy that we're staying another two years. It feels like home so everyone was happy.”

Life has moved on quickly. Salah now wears the colours of Trabzonspor in Turkey, where his new chapter has already been turbulent. The club crashed out of the Europa League play-offs with a 5-0 aggregate defeat to Hungarian side Ferencvaros, a result that cost head coach Fatih Tekke his job.

Off the pitch, though, there has been reason to celebrate in the Trabzonspor camp. Club president Ertugrul Dogan revealed that both Salah and team-mate Andre Onana have welcomed new arrivals.

Speaking to 61saat, Dogan said: "After the (Amed SK) match, I travelled abroad with Salah and Andre Onana. Both of them had new children, Onana had twins and Salah a baby boy. I congratulate their families and their wives.”

For Salah and Magi, the new arrival adds a son to a family already well known to Liverpool supporters. The couple, childhood sweethearts from their hometown of Nagrig, married in 2013. Magi later trained as a biotechnician, while Salah’s career exploded on the European stage. Their first daughter, Makka, was born in 2014, followed by her sister, Kayan, in 2020.

Now comes Leil, born back in the city that shaped so much of Salah’s modern football identity.

On the field, the Egyptian has tried to meet early adversity in Turkey with the same defiance that defined his Liverpool years. After the Ferencvaros defeat, he addressed fans in a statement on social media, underlining his commitment to the project.

"Nothing in my career ever came easy. Bad nights and disappointments are part of football, and I have learned to turn them into motivation and into trophies. Trabzonspor is my club, and I am part of this project, body and soul. Last night will not change that. I know expectations are high, and I truly believe we can and will deliver. ‘I came here to win’ is not just a slogan to me."

A new son, a new club, and the same relentless drive. The setting has changed, but Salah’s story clearly hasn’t finished writing itself.
