Newcastle United and Aston Villa may have missed their moment in the summer, but the chase for Christian Kofane is only just warming up.
Both Premier League clubs tracked the Bayer Leverkusen forward intensely in the final days of the window, only to run out of time before the deadline shut the door on any deal. The interest has not cooled. If anything, it has hardened into a clear plan for January.
Sources indicate Kofane remains high on the agenda at both St James’ Park and Villa Park, where recruitment teams are already plotting fresh moves once the winter market opens. He is not a secondary option. He is a primary target.
The attraction is obvious. At just 20, the Cameroon international is viewed inside scouting departments as a player with huge upside and room to grow. Last season he put together a quietly impressive campaign, scoring seven goals and laying on six assists in all competitions for Leverkusen. He has started the 2026-27 season as if determined to push his reputation up another level, with two goals in his first two outings.
Keep that pace up and his value will rocket. Within the Bundesliga, Kofane is already widely regarded as one of the standout young attacking talents. Clubs know that the next six months could be their last chance to move before his price climbs beyond reach.

For Newcastle, the fit is almost perfect.
