Fabio Pisacane Criticizes Luciano Spalletti After Full-Time Red Card in Cagliari vs Juventus Draw
Fabio Pisacane, head coach of Cagliari, was shown a red card alongside Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti at the final whistle of their 1-1 Serie A clash on Sunday at the Unipol Domus. The confrontation began when Pisacane kicked the ball into the air and then engaged in a heated exchange with Spalletti. Referee Matteo Marcenaro dismissed both coaches, meaning Pisacane will miss Cagliari’s next game against Monza.
Pisacane Points to Juve’s Anxiety
After the match, Pisacane expressed regret over how the post-game handshake ended but suggested that Spalletti’s nervousness showed respect for Cagliari’s strong form this season. He told DAZN Italia:
“It could have ended with an embrace. I am sorry it went this way, but yesterday Spalletti seemed worried. What happened at half-time wasn’t pleasant either. If Juventus are already worried about winning at Cagliari by Week 6, it means we are on the right path.”
Defending Defensive Strength Despite Low Possession
Despite holding only 28% possession, Cagliari managed a solid defensive performance against a star-studded Juventus side. Pisacane took pride in his team's resilience, responding to critics who focus on shots allowed:
“Sometimes people look at the number of shots we concede, but that’s normal for a team of our level. We let shots come because our players are ready to block anything. That fighting spirit is what I appreciate.”
Notably, Daniel Maldini scored for the fourth straight Serie A game, marking his 25th birthday during the match.
Cagliari Maintain Position Above Juventus in Serie A
The hard-earned draw keeps Cagliari ahead of Juventus in the Serie A table after six rounds, extending their run to four wins from six matches. Pisacane praised his squad’s execution of the game plan but stressed the need to stay focused:
“We must keep our heads up and remain alert as the season continues.”
