Premier League Managers Facing Possible Dismissal During International Break
The first international break of the season has arrived, with players leaving their clubs to represent their countries worldwide. Premier League matches will not resume until October 10th. While players get a pause, some managers might not enjoy any downtime due to the threat of being sacked.
Here are several Premier League managers who could lose their jobs before club football restarts.
Roberto De Zerbi
De Zerbi’s time at Tottenham Hotspur may be coming to an end during this break. The team sits at the bottom of the Premier League after failing to win in their opening five matches—losing three and drawing two. Expectations were high after the club invested over £300 million on signings like Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Savio, and Jan Paul van Hecke. The only factor possibly keeping him on is the financial cost tied to terminating the five-year contract he signed back in April.
Michael Carrick
When Carrick took over as interim manager of Manchester United in January, the team showed notable improvement. But since becoming the permanent head coach, results have plummeted. United are languishing in the bottom half of the table, having earned just five points from five games, including losses to Hull City and Manchester City. The club’s leadership remains supportive for now, but if poor form continues, tough decisions may follow.
Alvaro Arbeloa
Fulham started the season poorly with three straight defeats but have since stabilized somewhat, holding Liverpool and Manchester United to draws. Arbeloa brought in three favorites from Castilla during the summer transfer window, a move rumored to have caused unrest in the squad. If internal divisions exist, additional poor results could quickly end his tenure.
Frank Lampard
Lampard guided Coventry City to a Championship title and their first Premier League appearance in 25 years. Yet the top-flight campaign has been challenging. Despite a recent win over Nottingham Forest, Coventry remains inside the relegation zone after losing four of their first five matches. Lampard enjoys strong support from fans, but continued struggles might force a change.
