Rodri Arrives in Barcelona to Seal Major Transfer from Manchester City
Rodri, the Manchester City midfielder, has landed in Catalonia to finalize his move to Barcelona. The Spain international arrived at El Prat airport amid a crowd of supporters and media as he prepares to sign a contract running until 2030 with the Catalan club.
The Transfer Saga
The transfer wasn't straightforward for Barcelona. Manchester City, aware of Rodri's importance, declined two official offers from Barca before finally agreeing on Sunday afternoon. The deal will see Rodri commit to Barcelona for four years, a significant acquisition for the Blaugrana.
Throughout the negotiation, Rodri favored Barcelona's proposal over others, including interest from European giants and historic rivals. His agent revealed that Real Madrid had made a tempting offer, but Rodri chose Barcelona because he wanted to fit their style of play. He also dismissed lucrative possibilities from Paris Saint-Germain and other clubs across Europe.
Rodri Speaks on Arrival
Arriving at the private terminal with his family, Rodri spoke to reporters, sharing his relief that the transfer was almost complete. "Very happy to arrive. These have been intense days, but I’m happy everything has been resolved," he said.
"Playing for Barca is a dream for me. I’m really looking forward to meeting my teammates, many of whom I already know from the national team. Now it’s time to work and give my best. Let’s go for the Champions League and everything that comes our way."
Final Steps Before Official Announcement
With just formalities left, Rodri is expected to head to his hotel after the airport before joining Barcelona representatives for a formal dinner. Club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco will lead the delegation, allowing Rodri to meet key figures ahead of signing.
The medical exam will take place first thing at the club’s training ground. If all goes well, he’ll sign the contract and be officially introduced around 1 p.m. the following day, giving fans their first chance to see him in Barcelona colors.
Presentation and Debut Plans
Barcelona aims to present Rodri with maximum fanfare, ideally at the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Egyptian side Al Ahly. Despite the excitement, Rodri won't debut in this game since he hasn't trained with the squad yet.
