Shakira and Gerard Pique Return to Court Over Holiday Travel for Their Children
The long-running dispute between Shakira and Gerard Pique has resurfaced. The Colombian singer and her former partner, the ex-Barcelona defender, appeared at Barcelona’s City of Justice this week to discuss changes to their custody arrangement concerning their sons, Milan and Sasha.
New Legal Hearing in Barcelona
On October 6, 2026, both parties arrived in person for a court hearing that was kept confidential by their lawyers. The original custody deal from late 2022 permitted Shakira to move with the children to the United States, but the challenges of traveling across the Atlantic have sparked this new legal request.
Currently based in Madrid during her tour, Shakira returned to Barcelona to argue that the current visitation schedule is too demanding for their sons. According to El Mundo, the atmosphere was serious yet professional as neither side left the matter solely to their attorneys.
Focus on Travel During Short School Breaks
The main issue centers on how the boys travel during short holidays. Shakira wants the judge to adjust the visitation plan so that Milan and Sasha don't have to spend excessive time flying between Miami and Barcelona during these brief breaks.
Sharing the Travel Responsibilities
Shakira’s legal team proposed a fairer split of travel duties between her and Pique. They want the burden of transatlantic flights to be shared rather than falling only on the children.
Specifically, Shakira suggests that for short vacations, it should be Pique who travels to Miami instead of the boys traveling to Spain. This would help the children avoid jet lag and disruption caused by long flights for just a few days.
Preserving the Children’s Routine
The singer insists her top priority is her sons’ well-being and stability. Court documents highlight that the requested changes aim to let Milan and Sasha keep their school and social routines intact, reducing constant travel stress.
Her team clarified the intention isn’t to limit Pique’s time with the children but to reorganize visitation logistics to safeguard the boys’ emotional and academic health.
Adjusting to Life in Miami
Since relocating to Miami in April 2023, Milan and Sasha have faced a major shift from their life in Barcelona, where they were born. Shakira believes fewer short trips back to Spain will help her children feel more settled in their new home.
She has also spoken openly about the intense media scrutiny the family faced in Spain and has asked for privacy to be respected as the boys navigate their parents' public separation.
