Sky Sports Exits Baller League Coverage

Sky Sports has walked away from the Baller League, ending its live coverage of the celebrity six-a-side competition fronted by KSI, Idris Elba and a cast of former football greats including Ian Wright and Alan Shearer.

KSI’s Prime FC lifted last season’s title in front of a sold‑out O2 Arena, with the final shown live on Sky and pushed heavily across social media. The numbers were strong, and engagement online impressed executives, but the broadcaster has decided not to renew its deal for next season. Those close to the talks describe the move as a partnership reaching a “natural end” rather than a ratings casualty.

Born in Germany in 2024 with the backing of World Cup winners Mats Hummels and Lukas Podolski, Baller League has grown at speed. The UK edition arrived in 2025, bringing familiar faces to the touchline: Jens Lehmann, Micah Richards and England Lioness Chloe Kelly all stepped into management roles across the 12-team competition. This year, the project crossed the Atlantic with a first US tournament.

The format sits in the same booming space as Gerard Piqué’s Kings League, the seven-a-side phenomenon launched in 2022 that has since spread into eight countries and secured a broadcast deal with Dazn. Short-form, influencer-driven football has become a battleground for broadcasters chasing younger audiences and second-screen addicts.

Baller League is now back on the market. With Sky out, organisers are understood to be actively searching for a new television partner. Whatever happens in those talks, the games will continue to be shown on YouTube — a reminder that, for this kind of football, the platform may prove as important as the broadcaster.
