Sparta Rotterdam Closing in on Loan for Isaac Babadi
Sparta Rotterdam are closing in on a loan deal for PSV midfielder Isaac Babadi, with the move expected to be sealed on Deadline Day, according to Eindhovens Dagblad.
The 21-year-old has been on the fringes at the Philips Stadion, struggling to break into Peter Bosz’s first-team plans. PSV have therefore opened the door for a temporary exit, and Sparta have moved fastest.
Earlier this week, Voetbal International reported that both Fortuna Sittard and Sparta were pushing to sign Babadi. The race now looks all but decided. Sparta are set to win it.
The agreement stands apart from Ayoni Santos’ recent transfer from Sparta to PSV. There is no swap element, no package deal, just two clubs doing separate pieces of business in the same window.
Sparta will not take on Babadi’s full salary, ED reports, but will cover part of his wages for the duration of the loan. The final details are expected to be wrapped up and announced before the window closes.
Babadi is under contract in Eindhoven until mid-2028 and has already made 35 official appearances for PSV’s first team, scoring three goals and providing one assist. On paper, he remains a long-term asset for the Eredivisie champions.
On the pitch, though, his role has shrunk. His last appearance for PSV’s first team came back in May of last year, a clear sign of his slide down the pecking order.
That gap is partly explained by last season’s loan spell at Royal Antwerp FC, where he featured 21 times in official matches. Now another temporary move awaits — this time to Rotterdam, and a fresh chance to prove he belongs at the top level.
