Tottenham Hijacks Mudryk Move from Leeds United

Mykhailo Mudryk is on the verge of joining Tottenham Hotspur, leaving Leeds United staring at a familiar deadline-day frustration.

The Chelsea winger is set to undergo a medical in north London after Spurs surged ahead in the race, hijacking a move that had put Leeds firmly in contention earlier in the window. Daniel Farke had made a wide attacker one of his top priorities, but the Ukrainian will not be walking out at Elland Road.

Spurs have moved aggressively. According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have agreed a paid loan with Chelsea that includes a non-mandatory buy option worth around £75 million. Personal terms are in place, with Mudryk ready to link up again with Roberto De Zerbi, under whom he previously flourished.

Romano posted on X: “BREAKING: Mykhaylo Mudryk to Tottenham, here we go! Everything agreed also on personal terms. Mudryk joins #THFC on paid loan and also understand there will be a buy option clause not mandatory in the agreement. The Ukrainian will re-join De Zerbi.”

It caps a staggering summer of spending for De Zerbi’s side. The club have already brought in Andy Robertson on a free from Liverpool, Marcos Senesi on a free from Bournemouth, Jan Paul van Hecke for £52m from Brighton, Martin Dubravka on a free from Burnley, Mateus Fernandes for £85m from West Ham, Sandro Tonali for £92.5m from Newcastle United, Savinho for £75m from Manchester City and Omar Marmoush on loan, also from Manchester City.

Now they are set to add again. Tottenham plan medicals for both Mudryk and defender Tosin Adarabioyo, with the pair arriving from London rivals Chelsea as the clock ticks towards the 11pm deadline.

Mudryk’s Background

Mudryk’s story brings baggage as well as talent. The 25-year-old was handed a four-year suspension in 2024 after failing a drug test that showed a low concentration of the banned substance meldonium. He has not played since November of that year. An appeal finally cleared him to return at the end of last month, resolving the doping case and reopening a career that had stalled on the sidelines.

Impact on Leeds

For Leeds, the fallout is immediate. Missing out on Mudryk sharpens the focus on the options already in the building and raises the stakes for the final hours of the window.

• Daniel James and Harry Wilson stand to benefit most. Both operate in the wide attacking roles Mudryk would have targeted. Wilson, signed on a free from Fulham in the summer, is still bedding in and pushing for a regular place in Farke’s starting XI. James, meanwhile, is trying to relaunch his career after a bruising 18 months blighted by injuries.

They now know where they stand. Farke remains determined to add firepower in the final third, and that intent keeps the pressure firmly on the current wide men. Leeds want to climb well above last season’s 14th-place finish in the Premier League, and the manager has made it clear that the attacking output must improve.

One more subplot runs alongside the hunt for a new winger. Wilfried Gnonto is expected to leave Elland Road for Fiorentina, but that move will only be signed off if Leeds secure a replacement. No new attacker, no green light for the Italian’s exit.
