Tottenham's Late-Window Move for Mykhailo Mudryk
Tottenham Hotspur are on the brink of completing one of the most unexpected moves of the window, closing in on a loan deal for Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk with an option to buy for around £75 million.
The 25-year-old has not played competitive football for well over a year. He was suspended after a positive doping test and has not featured for Chelsea in any capacity since December 2024. The case has now been resolved in his favour, the charges dropped, and he is cleared to play again.
Chelsea, though, have moved on. Under Enzo Maresca, there is no space for him in a crowded attacking department, and the Italian has deemed the Ukrainian surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
From Gakpo and Ndiaye to Mudryk
Spurs have spent the summer searching for a left-sided attacker. The arrival of Savinho has added pace and flair, but the Brazilian is expected to operate mainly on the right, where Ange Postecoglou is short of natural options.
Cody Gakpo was the first-choice target for that left channel. Tottenham pushed, but Liverpool chose to keep the Dutchman. The plan then shifted towards Iliman Ndiaye, with a complex idea on the table that would have seen Richarlison head back to Everton.
That domino never fell. No agreement was reached between Richarlison and Everton on personal terms, and the move stalled.
Just as that pursuit faded, Mudryk’s name suddenly hit the radar on Monday evening. Within hours, Tottenham had accelerated talks and, according to Fabrizio Romano speaking on GIVEMESPORT’s Market Madness podcast, the deal is now all but done.
“Yes, Mykhailo Mudryk will be a Tottenham player, he will sign his contract at Tottenham in the next two hours,” Romano said, outlining the structure as a loan with a £75 million option to buy. The winger completed his medical on Tuesday morning.
Spurs will cover his wages and pay a loan fee as part of the agreement, a significant financial commitment for a player rebuilding his career after a long spell out.
A reset in north London
For Mudryk, Tottenham offers a fresh start and a league he already knows, but in a very different environment. The raw pace that once made him one of Europe’s most coveted young wingers now has to be matched by rhythm, sharpness and confidence after such a long absence.
Postecoglou gains another high-ceiling wide option, a player who can stretch games, attack full-backs and change the tempo in transition. For a side intent on playing on the front foot, it is a bold, high-risk, high-reward gamble.
Mudryk could make his Spurs debut as soon as Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest. Given his lack of recent minutes, Tottenham are expected to manage his return carefully rather than throw him straight into heavy duty.
The deal, though, is clear: if Mudryk catches fire in north London, that £75 million option will quickly turn from a question into a statement about where Spurs want to go next.
