Spotting Abde Ezzalzouli in space, the Dublin native slipped an unselfish, incisive pass into the winger’s path, and Ezzalzouli finished for what proved to be the only goal of the game.

The assist capped an impressive first-half display from Parrott, who had already threatened twice. He almost caught Getafe out with an audacious effort from the centre circle, then went close again with a chance inside the box as Betis pushed the visitors back.

The pressure finally told with that slick move before the interval, and Betis, roared on at the Villamarin, did enough after the break to protect their lead and secure three important points.
