Washburn Defeats Harding in Second Half Surge

SEARCY, Ark. — Harding’s defensive streak lived on for one more half Sunday afternoon. Washburn made sure it didn’t survive the second.

Locked at 0-0 after 45 minutes at Stevens Soccer Complex, the Lady Bisons once again took a scoreless game into the break, stretching an unusual early-season pattern: all five of their matches in 2026 have been goalless at halftime.

The first half followed the familiar script. Washburn came out on the front foot, probing and pressing, but Harding’s back line absorbed the early waves. The Lady Bisons blocked lanes, closed space and did just enough in the box to turn away every Ichabods look, dragging a dangerous attack into the locker room without a breakthrough.

Second Half

Then the game flipped in a hurry.

Washburn finally broke through in the 57th minute, punishing Harding with the opener to seize a 1-0 lead. Before the Lady Bisons could settle, the Ichabods struck again in the 58th, doubling the advantage and effectively seizing control of the match with a ruthless two-minute burst.

Harding tried to answer on the counter, looking to spring forward quickly whenever possession turned over. They found pockets, they found shots, but not the finish they needed against a disciplined Washburn backline. The visitors held their shape, cleared their lines and protected the lead that kept their unbeaten start intact.

Washburn finished with a 16-13 edge in shots, with both sides generating eight attempts after halftime, a reflection of Harding’s late push that never quite turned into a lifeline.

Now at 1-2-2, Harding turns the page and the stakes rise. Great American Conference play opens Wednesday on the road at East Central, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. in Ada, Oklahoma — and the Lady Bisons will be desperate for those halftime shutouts to finally start coming with points.
