Allianz Arena to Host 2028 UEFA Champions League Final for Third Time
Following the finals in 2012 and 2025, FC Bayern München's Allianz Arena will welcome the UEFA Champions League final once more in May 2028. The UEFA executive committee has given the green light to Munich City Council's bid, scheduling the match for 27 May 2028.
This marks the third occasion that the Allianz Arena will host Europe's biggest club football showdown, just three years after successfully holding the 2025 final. The event is planned to span four days, from 25 to 28 May 2028, including two fan meeting points in Munich’s city centre and a centrally located Champions Festival.
Statements from Key Figures
Jan-Christian Dreesen, CEO of FC Bayern, said: "This is great news for us: the Allianz Arena, FC Bayern and Munich stand for international appeal, real hospitality and the highest organisational standards. UEFA knows that, and sports fans from around the world experience that. We are pleased to be the hosts of the Champions League final for the third time after 2012 and 2025. We want to provide the fans with another incredible experience, and present Munich as a cosmopolitan, sports-loving and ideally equipped host city. Such a big event can also give an important boost to the bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, which we as FC Bayern are fully supporting. We will once again show that Munich knows how to do big sporting events."
Munich Mayor Dominik Krause added: "The fact that UEFA has put its trust in Munich again, just three years after the 2025 final, is a special honour for our city. Munich is synonymous with great sporting moments, excellent facilities and passionate fans. We look forward to welcoming guests from all over the world again in 2028 and celebrating a festival of football together."
Munich's History with the Champions League Final
The upcoming 2028 final will be the sixth time Munich hosts Europe’s top club football event. Before the Allianz Arena era, the Olympiastadion was the venue for the finals in 1979, 1993, and 1997. Alongside those, the Allianz Arena hosted the finals in 2012 and 2025.
