The summer window has shut, but the transfer market hasn’t taken a breath. Across the Premier League, plans for January are already hardening into bids, contracts and awkward conversations.

At Arsenal, the picture is becoming clearer. At Manchester United, it’s getting more complicated. And in north London, Harry Kane has delivered the answer many at Old Trafford didn’t want to hear.

Arteta on brink of new Arsenal contract

Arsenal are moving to lock down the man at the centre of their rebuild.

Mikel Arteta is “very, very close” to signing a new contract at the Emirates, with talks now at an advanced stage, according to Fabrizio Romano. Negotiations between the club and Arteta’s camp are said to be progressing smoothly, with an agreement expected.

The deal would cement the Spaniard’s position as the long-term architect of Arsenal’s project, giving clarity before the January window and beyond.

On the recruitment front, Arsenal have already announced an agreement to sign Andria Bartishvili, the winger widely tagged as the “next Khvicha Kvaratskhelia”. They remain active elsewhere too, maintaining interest in Kenan Yildiz, Julian Alvarez and Eli Junior Kroupi, while also being linked with Como talent Nico Paz.

The Gunners are also monitoring Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha. With Cody Gakpo established and Bradley Barcola arriving on Deadline Day, Ngumoha faces a squeeze for minutes on the left, and Arsenal are watching his situation closely ahead of January, though no fee or formal bid has been mentioned.

United hit Kane wall and turn to Truffert

Manchester United’s long-running fascination with Harry Kane has taken another hit.

TEAMtalk report that Bayern Munich are increasingly confident of keeping the England captain beyond this season. The German champions believe their relationship with Kane is strong and that he is committed to their project, despite United’s willingness to explore a deal running to 2027. Kane’s current contract runs only until the end of the season, but Bayern see no need to panic.

With that avenue closing, United’s focus has shifted to the other end of the pitch.

Having missed out on Lewis Hall, who has signed a new deal at Newcastle, United are stepping up their search for a new left-back and have identified Bournemouth’s Adrien Truffert as a leading target. The 24-year-old, signed from Rennes, is viewed as a long-term successor to Luke Shaw.

United are closely tracking Truffert and have already laid groundwork for a potential move, according to TEAMtalk. Bournemouth value him at around £60m and have him tied down until 2030. The Cherries are reluctant to sell, making a January deal difficult and pushing any serious move towards next summer.

United failed to strengthen at left-back in the summer. Truffert’s form on the south coast means he is now firmly on their radar as they plan for life beyond Shaw.

Tottenham turmoil: Richarlison in limbo, Ausilio lined up

Across north London, Tottenham’s planning for January has run headlong into a personal stand-off.

Richarlison’s proposed return to Brazil with Vasco da Gama collapsed on deadline day, despite Tottenham being prepared to let him leave. UOL journalist Bruno Braz reports that Vasco were ready to structure a permanent deal that would have allowed the forward to move abroad again in January. The Brazilian club even offered a clause giving him an exit route after just a few months, and Spurs were reportedly satisfied with the finances.

The obstacle was Richarlison himself. He refused a permanent transfer. His preferred option was to terminate his Tottenham contract, then join Vasco until the end of the year and reassess his options in January. That scenario never materialised.

The Brazilian has already seen potential moves to Everton and Trabzonspor fall away over personal terms. Now he appears stuck at Spurs until the winter window opens, facing up to four months without competitive senior football. He reacted on social media after Roberto De Zerbi dashed faint hopes of a Tottenham recall, underlining his frustration at a career drifting on pause.

Behind the scenes, Spurs are reshaping their structure. Piero Ausilio is expected to arrive as the club’s new sporting director after more than two decades at Inter. His impending move has already triggered change in Milan, with Dario Baccin promoted into Ausilio’s old role.

Ausilio’s arrival in north London could immediately intersect with Brighton midfielder Yasin Ayari. Sport Witness report that Baccin is keen to make a statement signing at Inter and has identified Ayari, whose contract at Brighton runs until 2027, as a potential target. The same report suggests Ayari may also appeal to Ausilio himself, hinting at a tug-of-war over the 21-year-old’s future once the new Spurs chief is in place.

Chelsea weigh up midfield, Madueke interest grows

Chelsea are expected to move for a replacement for Enzo Fernandez in January, with their recruitment department already cycling through options.

Lamine Camara, once high on the list, may no longer be the priority, with Marc Bernal and Manu Kone now among the names linked. Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, long admired at Stamford Bridge, also remains under consideration.

The knock-on effect of Chelsea’s squad churn is being felt out wide. Noni Madueke, short of minutes this season, has drawn interest from two European heavyweights.

The club have confirmed that Preston Fearon has joined Forest Green Rovers on a three-month loan, offering the youngster valuable senior experience.

Another deal has also been signed off, with Ryan Battrum heading to National League side Southend United on a one-month loan. Short moves, but important ones for a squad trying to keep its pathway from academy to first team alive.
